Check-in will be slightly earlier - 11:30am until 11:50am, and Fencing will finish no later than 4pm.


Craiglockhart Primary School Class re-opens

Craiglockhart Primary School is now open again, and we will hold our class there today.   We expect to hold next week's classes there, as planned.

New Class opening in New Year

We finally have an open class in the Gorgie / Dalry / Shandon / Polwarth area.

It will run from 3:45 until 4:45pm, on Wednesday afternoons, starting 12th January 2011, in
St. Michael's Parish Church Hall, at the junction of Slateford Road, Harrison Road, Ardmillan Terrace and Angle Park Terrace.

The venue is right on the 4, 44, 25, 34 and 35 bus routes, and very close to the 1, 2, 3, 10, 25, 27 and 33 bus routes.

More than 600 people now introduced to fencing

After yesterday's tasters, and today's tasters at Stenhouse Primary, we've now given more than 600 people their first taste of fencing.   18/11/10

First Tasters held for the Guiding Association 

The Rainbows and Brownies of St. Michael's Parish Church all got a taste of fencing today, using our new "buzzer" foils.   17/11/10

More than 500 children now introduced to fencing

Thanks to our initial batch of taster sessions at Stenhouse Primary School, we broke the magical 500 barrier for children introduced to fencing.

Performance class starts

This week saw the start of our first competition-preparation class, at Ratho.  Several of our best performing youngsters have eagerly grasped the opportunity to take part.   1/11/10

New Taster Sessions held

This week we held several taster sessions as part of the Opening Day events at the Community Education Wing of the new Tynecastle High School.

We're now looking forward to seeing our local councillor wield a Roman shortsword in earnest.   29/10/10

Hawthornden Primary School - classes begin

We had a great response to the new classes, with both pupils and teachers leaving with big smiles.   27/10/10

Ratho and Carrickvale - October holiday

We're taking a holiday now for the October school holiday week.

The Ratho class returns on Monday, 25th October at the new time of 6pm - before the children return to school.

The Carrickvale class returns on Monday, 1st November 2010, once schools have gone back, at the new time of 4:15pm.    16/10/10

Ratho and Carrickvale - New class times

The Carrickvale class now runs from 4:15pm until 5:15pm, starting on the 1st November 2010.

The classes at Ratho now run from 6pm until 7pm, then 7pm until 8pm, with bouting, sparring and individual lessons from 8pm until 9:15pm, starting from the 25th of October, 2010.    16/10/10

New Taster Sessions held

This week we've held a family taster session at Carrickvale, and a taster for the Youth Club at Gorgie Memorial Hall.    15/10/10

Hawthornden Primary School - new classes

Two new classes are beginning, for the Primary 5 pupils in the school.  

The weekly classes begin in the last week in October.    14/10/10

Craiglockhart Primary School - new classes

Two new classes are beginning, for pupils of the school.  We've had all of the tasters, and they went very well.

Regular weekly classes begin on the second of November.    6/10/10

Adult beginners' class now open!

Classes currently begin at 7:30pm, and finish at 9:15pm.  All welcome.

Come along and try, free of charge for your first night, with all equipment supplied.   13/9/10

FiF recruits a new trainee coaching assistant

FiF begin working with the ActiveSchools programme

Today we introduced another 104 children to fencing, and welcomed back 18 of our summer class members, at  Ratho Primary School.

FiF starts a second weekly class

Welcome to the new fencers at Carrickvale Community Centre.  You joined our second weekly class, which  runs every Monday, from 4:30pm until 5:30pm from now until Christmas.   30/8/10

FiF arrange classes at a fourth venue

Classes for children from Primary 1 to Primary 4 will start on Thursday 9th September, at Ratho Primary School.     24/8/10

Fencing is Fun goes green

FiF has taken it's taster sessions to green pastures - literally! We extended our grassroots fencing-outreach programme to the music festival circuit this summer, gaining a whole new bunch of converts to the fun of fencing.

We had planned to run for an hour or so.  But, bowing to continuous demand from the kids, the sessions ran continuously from breakfast time until sunset, and then started up again the following day too!  In the end, 32 children had a go. And then another, and then another...    15/8/10

Fencing is Fun start weekly classes

Today we began holding weekly classes in Ratho.  We've had to start a waiting list, so we are going to add additional coaches in future weeks. 23 / 7 / 10

Announcing the Fencing is Fun Summer programme for Carrickvale

Leaflets for this and many other activities at Carrickvale have now been sent to every pupil in 10 schools in the South-West area of the City of Edinburgh, and also to a further 8 schools.

You can also now find us at the City of Edinburgh council's website in its listings of summer activities provided via  Community Learning and Development. FiF appears in the South West area's summer activity list -  16 / 6 / 10
